Yacht Club to hold boat parade workshop

It’s not too early to start thinking about entering your boat in the Yacht Club’s annual Parade of Lights on Dec. 8.

To assist those who wish to enter, the Yacht Club is hosting a Parade of Lights Workshop on Sunday, Nov. 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the home of Commodore Dave Dain, 22680 Lighthouse Dr.

Attendees will learn from past winners and Yacht Club members on how to decorate your boat with tips and tricks used on winning boats. Previous winners of the Parade of Lights will be on hand to answer questions and share their decorating expertise.

The Yacht Club is seeking entries for this event. This year, there will be new categories, including one for first-time entries. Cash prizes are awarded to the winners. The entry form will be published in an upcoming issue of The Friday Flyer. To request an entry form by email, email Dave Dain at ddain297@gmail.com or Jim Lange at langejh@aim.com.

“There will be cash prizes for multiple categories, including clubs,” said Dave. “We also have some special events planned at the end of the parade at Holiday Harbor. With your help, we can make this the best boat parade ever.”

The Parade of Lights is a long-standing Canyon Lake tradition. The parade begins at the East Port boat launch and travels to the main lake, ending at Holiday Harbor Park.

It’s difficult to say who has more fun during this event, the residents who decorate their boats and participate in the parade or the hundreds of people who line the parade route at the parks and waterfront home parties.
