Letter: Lake Management Plan

Editor, The Friday Flyer

Canyon Lake Property Owners Association (CLPOA) initiated the Lake Management Plan for Canyon Lake in 2015. In total, the Lake Management Plan identifies 18 lake management strategies to ensure the health and beneficial uses of Canyon Lake. While many of the issues addressed in the report will improve with a dredging project, the dredging project will only be part of an overall strategy to improve the lake’s health.

According to the Lake Management Plan, a recent report estimates the storage volume of Canyon Lake has been reduced by 5,000 acre-feet to as much as 8,000 acre-feet since lake formation in 1929. Every beneficial use of Canyon Lake is negatively impacted by sedimentation.

I serve as the liaison to the Dredge Committee, which is made up of seven POA members. These members include a former Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District Director, two Riverside Flood Control District Commissioners, two licensed engineers as well as other members with experience in major construction projects.

The Dredge Committee is charged not only with exploring dredge program options but also tasked with developing long-range plans for ensuring the most effective future use of the lake and related facilities.

Nancy Horton, Kevin Jefferies and Chuck Bryant have over two decades of experience being Directors of Elsinore Valley Water District (EVMWD). With all of their firsthand experience on the EVMWD Board and their firsthand knowledge of my work in the community, they have chosen to support me in my goal to be elected as the next EVMWD Division 1 Director.

Please be sure to vote on Nov. 6.
