Firefighters respond to brush fire on Labor Day

Water from Canyon Lake and the city’s recycled water pond at the golf course was used to fight a small brush fire on a hillside in Lake Elsinore on Labor Day. According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the fire was first reported at 3:02 p.m. in the 35000 block of Redberry Palms Court. The first arriving engine company reported a half-acre burning at a slow rate of spread in light brush. The fire grew to five acres.

The forward progress of the fire was stopped at 3:40 p.m. The fire was contained at 5 p.m. Firefighters remained on the scene for mop up.

Eighty-five firefighters, 16 engine companies and one helicopter responded to the “Hills” fire. There were no injuries or evacuations.
