Woman’s Club kicks off 2018/2019 season

The Women’s Club kicked off its 2018/2019 season with the new board’s first luncheon meeting on July, 18. The group enjoyed a Sip and Dip after the meeting.

Bonnie Wade was inducted as the new president at the club’s June meeting. Other members of the new board include Alexis Prince and Shawna Bowen, programs; Daryl France and Tammy Revard, membership; Jan May and Vicki Young, ways and means, Terri Ireland, philanthropy; Cindy Jacobs, secretary; Karen Wallace, treasurer; Marlene Cathro, publicity; Valerie Reeves, newsletter; and Rose Marie Hand, parliamentarian.

The Woman’s Club is a non-profit, non-partisan, philanthropic service organization. The club is dedicated to the enrichment of Canyon Lake and helping others less fortunate. Its mission is to provide a safe gathering place for women of Canyon Lake to raise funds to help those in need, both individuals and other charities, and to provide scholarships to local students for the continuation of their education after high school.

In June, the club awarded $42,000 to local charities and in the form of scholarships to Canyon Lake women.

The Woman’s Club was founded in 1972 with 92 members. Today, its membership has grown to more than 200. The club hosts a number of community events to help raise money for their philanthropic endeavors. They include the annual Home Tour, Fashion Show and Mermaid Festival, to name a few. New this year will be a Witches Tea in October.

Annual club membership is $20. Monthly meetings are held on third Wednesday in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge. Vendor hour is from 9 to 10 a.m.; meeting begins at 10 a.m. Lunch is $14 per person.
