Help clear the shelters by adopting Aug. 18

Animal Friends of the Valleys, 33751 Mission Trail, Wildomar, will be participating in Clear the Shelters, a nationwide pet adoption drive held on Saturday, Aug. 18. The shelter will be offering $20 adoptions in an effort to find homes for all the animals it shelters.

NBC and Telemundo owned stations are teaming up with Animal Friends of the Valleys and hundreds of other shelters across the country to host the 4th annual Clear the Shelters to help find loving homes for animals in need. Since 2015, more than 150,000 pets found their “fur”ever homes.

Clear the Shelters began in 2015. Over 18,000 adoptions were recorded by 400 participating shelters and rescues from across the country. In 2016, roughly 700 shelters and rescues participated and over 50,000 animals were adopted. Last year’s event was highly successful with more than 80,000 animals adopted from 1,000 shelters in the United States and Puerto Rico

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, about 1.5 million animals are euthanized each year due to overcrowding. “Every single pet tat is adopted frees shelter staff up to work with and prepare the next pet for potential adoption,” said Kenny Lamberti, director of strategic engagement and companion animals for the Humane Society.

Animal Friends of the Valleys offers animals for adoption year round and provides a wide variety of animal services including animal control, rescue, foster care, spay, neuter and immunizations to Southwest Riverside County and the cities of Canyon Lake, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Menifee, Murrieta and Temecula.
