CL Library celebrates Halloween in July

The Canyon Lake Library celebrated Halloween in July on Friday, July 13. Several of the 55 attendees wore costumes. The program included making Halloween treats and crafts and a viewing of the movie Hotel Transylvania 2.

David Cousin, a holder of five world records in juggling, visited the library on Wednesday.

On Monday, July 23, Canyon Lake’s John Guzman Jr. will be at the library sharing travel tips and talk about his experience traveling to Caye Caulker, a small Caribbean island off the coast of Belize, and Ometepe, an island in southwest Nicaragua’s vast Lake Nicaragua

The library’s Summer Reading Program sign-ups are approaching 500 participants. The reading incentive program began June 4. The first drawings for Extra Reading Prizes start today. The last drawing will be held on July 27, the day before the program ends.

Adults are included as part of the Million Readers Summer Challenge. The California Library Association has challenged libraries and readers to gain one million adult readers to participate in summer reading programs across the state. The Canyon Lake Library now has 113 adult readers signed up for the program with many more who are reading but have not joined and are not being counted.

The Adult Book Club will meet on July 30 at 4 p.m. “A Man Called Ove,” the July title for the club, is available at the library for adults wishing to participate in the discussion.

Toddler Story Time continues through the summer. The program, developed for ages three and younger, meets on Mondays at 11 a.m.

The Roots to Grow Tutoring will not be available in July. Tutoring online with live tutors is available through the Riverside County Library System website at rivlib.net.

The Riverside County Library System has an app available to make using its website from mobile devices easier. The app is a portal to the library’s services from mobile devices. It allows users to check their account, search the catalog, use digital library cards, renew items and get the latest recommended reads suggestions. Users can also access digital content, such as ebooks, audiobooks, music, movies, magazines and more. The Location Finder allows users to find the nearest branch, see opening hours and get directions to any of the county’s 35 library branches.

The Canyon Lake Library is a member of the Riverside County Library System and honors cards and returns from other affiliated libraries.

The Library is located inside the Canyon Lake City Hall building at 31516 Railroad Canyon Rd. and is open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library is closed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

All programs at the Canyon Lake Library are free to participants. The programs are made possible through the support of the Friends of the Canyon Lake Library and the City of Canyon Lake.
