Firefighters respond to structure fire on Ketch Dr.

On May 18, at 4:54 p.m., firefighters responded to a residential structure fire at the 29000 block of Ketch Drive, Canyon Lake. The resident, Thomas Ulrich, is a 30-year resident of Canyon Lake.

According to the resident, the source of the fire appeared to be a window air conditioning unit in the bedroom. Thomas said he tried to open the bedroom door but the smoke was too thick, so he quickly exited the home.

Twenty-one firefighters, five engine companies, one truck company and one overhead personnel responded. The first arriving engine company reported smoke coming from the rear of the residence. Firefighters located and contained a fire in a bedroom. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The loss is estimated to be $20,000. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident.
