The Canyon Lake Association of Past Presidents (CLAPPS) invites the public to participate in its annual Beautification Tournament to help raise funds for the beautification of the golf course. The tournament is set for Saturday, June 16, with an 8 a.m. Shotgun start.

This year’s format is Partners Best Ball with three flights; Jack and Jill, Jack and Jack and Jill and Jill. An addition Scramble format has been added for those who want to play and don’t have a handicap.

The entry fee is $45 and includes lunch. Cart and green fee are not included. Signups are taken at the Golf Pro Shop at the country club. Players do not have to be a member of the CLAPPS to participate.

Lunch, awards, opportunity drawings and silent auction will follow the tournament at approximately 12:30 p.m.

All proceeds from the tournament will be used for golf course beautification projects The Beautification Tournament is formally known as the Tree Tournament. The Tree Tournament was started in 1982 by Jim Magill and his late wife Christine. The entry fee was one 15-gallon tree. As a result of the tournament, 217 trees were donated and planted on the golf course that year. When no more trees were needed, the tournament name was changed to the Beautification Tournament.

The tournaments have raised more than $50,000 for golf course improvements. Past projects include brass yard markers, brass distance plaques, expanding the putting green and a practice bunker, to name a few. Recent improvements include the installation of 13 new benches around the golf course, a new street clock at the practice green and tee box markers.
