Concert takes Canyon Lakers down memory lane

Canyon Lakers were treated to a trip down memory lane on Saturday during the Surf City Allstars concert, featuring original Beach Boy David Marks and Dean Torrence of Jan & Dean. Formed in the 80s, the Surf City Allstars are the only tribute band where every member toured in the Beach Boys band. They offer a performance so true to the sounds of the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean that they have won ringing endorsements from members of the original bands. Saturday’s song list included more than 25 songs made famous by the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean. “Kokomo,” “Barbara Ann,” “409” “Surfer Girl” and “Surf City” are a few of the songs that had the audience out of their seats and dancing in the aisles.

A highlight for one young concertgoer, 10-year-old Ryann Boshard, was being invited on stage to play Dean Torrence’s guitar beside Beach Boy David Marks.

Concertgoers were treated to a Meet and Greet after the show, where band members posed for photos and signed autographs.

“What a show with these surf and beach music legends,” said Concert Promoter Doug Schultz. “Like the Warren Hill concert, we had another faction of Canyon Lake who bought tickets for the Surf City Allstars. There were at least 100 new faces among the concertgoers this time that we have not seen before.”

Opening the show was Canyon Lake’s own Aprile DeAnne, who had the audience breaking out in laughter with her comedic rendition of  Patsy Cline’s “She’s Got You.” “That was my first attempt at stand up comedy, which has been something on my bucket list for years,” said Aprile. “I enjoyed performing songs from my childhood. In my house, we were always playing hits of the 50s and 60s.”

Tickets to the POA’s remaining “Concerts at the Lodge” concerts are on sale now. Country music artist Keith Anderson will perform on June 30. General Admission tickets are $32; VIP tickets are $57.
