Truly Williams, a high school senior and Canyon Lake native, was presented with the Congressional Award Certificate and Congressional Award Bronze Medal by Congressman Ken Calvert. The award is given out by the U.S. Congress to young Americans between 13 1/2 and 24 years of age for initiative, achievement and service. There are four areas in which participants set and achieve goals: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration. The emphasis on four diverse program areas is intended to mold a well-rounded youth.

Based on time commitments to each of the areas, participants earn Bronze, Silver, or Gold Congressional Award Certificates and Bronze, Silver, or Gold Congressional Award Medals. The award is an achievable challenge that recognizes goal setting and long-term commitment in today’s youth.
