Chronic Illness Support

The Chronic Illness Adult Support Group meets on the first Monday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Canyon Lake Senior Center. On May 7, an R.N. who teaches first aid will speak about and demonstrate important first aid measures. For more information, contact Steven Prince at 949-293-2919

Car Cruises

The Lake Elsinore Car Cruises are back. Cool classic cars will cruise into Lake Elsinore’s Historic Main Street on May 5 and June 2 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Restaurants and stores stay open late with many offering Car Cruise specials. Free Workshop

Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District and the Riverside invite the public to a free Backyard Composting & Green Cleaning Workshop tomorrow, Apr. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at EVMWD headquarters, 31315 Chaney St., Lake Elsinore. Attendees will learn more about building a compost bin, making safe cleaning products from home, using real receipts for green cleaning and composting using fruit, vegetable and yard clippings.

Veterans Service Awards

California Senator Jeff Stone encourages veterans groups and others to nominate worthy individuals for his annual 2018 Veterans Service Awards. The deadline to submit nominations is Apr. 20. The awards are given annually to 10 military veterans from the 28th Senate District who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help their fellow veterans and members of the community. Awards will be presented in late May. Award recipients must work or live in the 28th District, which is entirely in Riverside County. Sale Ranch Sanctuary

Sale Ranch Sanctuary in Temecula is hosting “An Evening for the Animals” fundraiser to benefit its animals. The fundraiser will be held May 19, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Wiens Family Cellars Winery and includes a silent auction, food and live entertainment. Tickets are $100 person; early bird tickets are $100. Pet Walk

The 2018 Pet Walk will be held on Saturday, May 12 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Diamond Stadium Levee, 500 Diamond Dr., Lake Elsinore. The 1.5-mile scenic walk begins promptly at 9 a.m. Registration will be available online and the morning of the event. Pets must be leashed. This event will include pet vendors and raffle. Water Summit

The Lake Elsinore & San Jacinto Watersheds Authority (LESJWA) invites the public to its Water Summit on Apr. 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Diamond Club at Diamond (Storm) Stadium, 500 Diamond Dr., Lake Elsinore. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.: event begins at 10 a.m. Registration is $30 and includes lunch. Expressive Art Class

Michelle’s Place, a breast cancer resource center serving Canyon Lake and surrounding area, hosts a free Expressive Art Class every other Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. The class uses art as a form of therapy and self-exploration. Sessions help to practice creativity while opening the door to calming strategies and awareness techniques. Participants gain a better insight of themselves through sharing feelings and exploring a host of topics with group dialog and discussion. It’s part art, part relaxing, part “therapy,” part discussion and a positive diversion for anyone. No reservations, fees or art experience required. For dates and times, visit michellesplace.org.

Caregivers Connection

The Canyon Lake Community Church’s Caregivers Connection offers an opportunity for caregivers to share common problems, needs and experiences. Anyone caring for a loved one for illnesses such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, stroke, heart issues or Parkinson’s is welcome to attend. The group meets on the second and fourth Monday of every month from 10 a.m. to noon in Room 6 at the church. Apr. 23 is a regular meeting. May 7 will be a potluck. Canyon Lake Bingo

Bingo, sponsored by the Canyon Lake Lioness Club, is held at the senior center on the first and third Sunday of every month from 1 to 4 p.m. Due to State Law, players must be over the age of 18. Admission is $10 for a six-sheet set; special games are available for $1 each. CLAWS Bunco

Canyon Lake women are invited to attend the Canyon Lake Association of Women (CLAWS) group bunco on the second Wednesday of the month at 3 p.m. in the Magnolia Room at the country club. The cost is $10 per player. Participants are asked to bring canned and packaged food for the community cupboard. For more information, call Betty Henry at 951-244-3091.

Fruit Donation

Helping Hands Group, a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is appealing to residents who have fruit trees to donate the fruit to Helping Hands Group who will pick the fruit and deliver it to those in need of food. Residents wanting fruit picked or who want to volunteer are asked to contact Helping Hands Group at 951-821-6080 or contact@helpinghandsgroup.us.

Menifee Historical Museum

The Menifee Valley Historical Museum contains displays about Canyon Lake history, provided by Canyon Lake pioneers Don and Elinor Martin who sometimes serve as docents. The museum, located in the old Menifee Elementary School on Garbani Rd. in Menifee, is open Sundays, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Farmers Market

The Canyon Lake Farmers Market operates every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the upper section of the Towne Center parking lot.

Car Show

Lamb’s Fellowship, 21901 Railroad Canyon Rd., will host its 4th annual Car and Motorcycle Show. on May 19 at 10 a.m. This free event is open to the public and will feature rods, custom and classic cars, motorcycles, live auction, bounce houses, food trucks and live music featuring the British Invaders. Free Sprinkler Nozzles

EVMWD customers are eligible for up to 25 free low flow sprinkler nozzles. Customers must act fast, supplies are limited and the program is coming to an end on June 30. The Toro nozzles are more efficient than regular pop-up spray nozzles and can help customers save both water and money. To participate, print a voucher from the program’s website, freesprinklernozzles.com, and redeem at participating irrigation supply stores.

Bereavement Support

Grief Share meets in the chapel at Canyon Lake Community Church on Mondays at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Pastor Pete at 951-244-1877, ext. 204.

Coffee with Nancy

Residents are invited to meet with Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District Division 1 Director Nancy Horton, a Canyon Lake resident, on the last Tuesday of every month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Sports Stop. Nancy is available to talk about changing guidelines for water conservation, answer questions about conservation rebates and the district’s water rates, etc. Residents are invited to bring their water bill for clarification of costs. Coffee is complimentary.

Genealogy Research

The Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society Business and Program meetings are held monthly on the second Thursday, except July and August, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Mission Trail Community Library, 34303 Mission Trail, Wildomar. Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery is a program that teaches and gives one tools on how to address their hurts, habits, and hang-ups so that they can move forward and find their purpose and a life filled with joy. Participants discover that they are not alone in what they are going through and find people to walk alongside them. Celebrate Recovery meets on Sundays at 6 p.m. in Building C at Canyon Lake Community Church. A potluck is held at 5:30 on the first Sunday of each month. Childcare is provided.

MOPS

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) meets on the first and third Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at Canyon Lake Community Church. MOPS seeks to support mothers during the early years of their children’s lives. By connecting with other moms and mentor moms, craft projects and guest speakers, women are encouraged in their physical, emotional and spiritual journeys. Childcare is provided.

The moms fellowship over hot coffee and warm breakfast, then enjoy a speaker or craft. Those desiring “coffee talk” are invited to contact Karla Holenbeck at 951-317-6803.

Sewing, Quilting Group

Residents are invited to the senior center for sewing and quilting on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring a project and sewing machine, or just visit and check it out. For more information, contact Terri Ireland at 951-246-2571.

Needlework Group

Residents are invited to bring their knitting and crocheting supplies and projects to the Canyon Lake Senior Center on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information, contact Betty Cannavino at 951-244-4126.

Breast Cancer Resources

Bosom Buddies is a breast cancer support group in Canyon Lake led by Janelle Basham and Kimberly Slingerland. The pair mentor, educate and support newly diagnosed breast cancer patients during their journey. For more information, visit clbosombuddies.com.

Michelle’s Place, 27645 Jefferson Ave., Ste. 117, Temecula, is a breast cancer resource center serving Canyon Lake and surrounding area. The center’s mission is to provide emotional and educational support to those touched with breast cancer and facilitate breast health care services. Women’s Circles

Women’s Circles are small groups of women who meet once a month in each other’s homes or in Building C at Canyon Lake Community Church. They pray and support missionaries and pray for and encourage one another. Being a member of a Women’s Circle provides an opportunity for small group fellowship. Faith Circle meets the third Monday at 7 p.m.; Julia Circle meets the second Monday at 10:30 a.m.; Priscilla Circle meets the first Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.; Sonshine Circle meets the third Monday at 9:30 a.m.; Sunset Circle meets the second Sunday at 5:30 p.m.; Love Circle meets the second Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. For more information about the Women’s Circles, contact Circle Coordinator Phyllis Duncan at 951-674-4436.

Steering Wheel Covers

The Lioness Club offers custom-made steering wheel covers made of many different materials and patterns, which keep steering wheels from becoming too hot to handle. They also work well during cold weather. The price is $8 for one; $15 for two. The profits from this project go toward the club’s ongoing philanthropic projects.
