Community invited to National Day of Prayer

Residents are invited to come together to pray for the community, state, nation and protectors (police, fire and military) at Canyon Lake’s sixth annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 3, in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge. Breakfast will be served at 10 a.m.; program begins at 10:30 a.m.

This year’s theme is “Pray for Unity.” The scripture verse is “Making every effort to keep the unity of Spirit through the bond of peace,” Ephesians 4:3.

Tickets cost $12 and include a continental breakfast. Prayers, music and testimonies will follow breakfast. Reservation deadline is Apr. 23.

Participating churches and clubs include Canyon Lake Community Church, Elevation, Center, New Hope, Lamb’s Fellowship, Canyon Lake Bible Club and Canyon Lake Torah Club.

Lane McKellar will serve as this year’s emcee. The Elsinore Flying Tigers Air Force ROTC will serve as the Color Guard. Those leading prayers include Pastor Dave Dick, Pastor Kasey Crawford, Chris Suit, Pastor Thor Ramsay, Pastor Harvey Flake, Buzzy Enniss,  Sherry Reiter and Kaitlyn Evans. Peniel Flake will sing a solo accompanied by Marvin Webster and Kylene Evans will be playing her harp in a solo of patriotic music. Mike Shroyer will coordinate the patriotic music.

A special gift will be given to everyone attending this year’s National Day of Prayer. Shirley Webster has made a square of patchwork in red, white and blue, with a prayer attached, and is enclosing a small cross.  It is a completely unique keepsake of the special day.

The National Day of Prayer has been celebrated in the United States since 1952, by joint resolution of Congress and President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, President Reagan designated the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer.
