TCHS winter guard takes first at WGASC

Temescal Canyon High School winter guard took first place in the Scholastic AAA division at the Winter Guard Association of Southern California competition on Mar. 4 at Murrieta Valley High School. WGASC is the largest winter guard circuit in the country with more than 300 ensemble participants.

TCHS competed against six groups in round one and scored 66.56 after a 1.6 timing penalty. They had the highest score in their division for the day, with and without the penalty.

Championships for the circuit will take place at various venues in the Huntington Beach area on Apr. 21.

TCHS winter guard is instructed by Arturo Castro and Allison Ryan. The program is directed by Michael Donahue.

TCHS winter guard is made up of 15 students: Canyon Lake resident Alexis Zander, Canyon Lake resident Bailee Shields, team captain Sequoia Arvelo, team captain Salma Torres, Bryan MacDonald, Hannah Landry, Renee Holton, Mauricio Ramirez, Kevin Jenkins, Jashelle Ranson, Victoria Finlayson, Desiree Villa, Ariana Guzman, Melanie Burns and Kasie Hernandez.
