Scholarships available to Canyon Lake students

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club announced its Scholarship Program for 2018. Scholarships are open to high school seniors who reside in Canyon Lake and attend a local high school. Applications are available in local high school career centers. Applications are due by Apr. 5. The Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club invites students who will graduate this year to apply for a scholarship. Scholarships are open to high school seniors who reside in Canyon Lake regardless of the school they attend.

Students will need to fill out an application and submit an essay on “Lessons I have learned from golf,” provide two letters of recommendation, transcripts verifying a GPA of 3.0 or higher and a letter of acceptance to the college or university they plan to attend. Applications are available at the Temescal Canyon High School counseling office and the Canyon Lake Golf Pro Shop. Applications are due April 9 and will be awarded in May.

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club is again offering scholarships to Canyon Lake high school senior girls and Canyon Lake women who are pursuing continuing education. Information and applications are available at high school career centers, on the Woman’s Club website at canyonlakewomansclub.com, or by contacting Dee Zasio at 951-244-0123. Deadline for submission of applications is Friday, Apr. 13.

Last year, the Woman’s Club awarded a total of $15,000 to Canyon Lake students. Since 1995, the club has awarded more than $200,000 in student scholarships and more than $57,000 to continuing education students.

The Jr. Women’s Club, a philanthropic group of women whose primary focus is on the youth of Canyon Lake, is offering scholarships to graduating seniors, both male and female, who plan on continuing their education. Continuing education can be in the form of four-year or two-year universities, vocational schools, institutes and academies. Scholarships are open to Canyon Lake residents only. Private school students are welcome to apply.

Applications are available through high school counselors at Temescal Canyon High School, Santa Rosa Academy, Lakeside High School, Elsinore High School, Lakeside & Elsinore High Schools, or by emailing the Jr. Women’s Club Scholarship Chairperson Shannon Anderson at avalon.monroe@gmail.com. Applications are due by Monday, Apr. 16. The Jr. Women’s Club has awarded more than $40,000 in scholarships over the past eight years.

The Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild has initiated a scholarship program for graduating Canyon Lake high school seniors who want to pursue a degree in the field of Theatre Arts (music, music education, dance, visual arts, media arts, film and theatre performance).

Applicants will need to fill out an application form, provide two letters of recommendation, transcript(s) reflecting a 3.5 GPA in any theatre art course and a 3.0 GPA in other courses. Application deadline is Apr. 20. Applications are available on the Fine Art Guild’s website at canyonlakeguild.com, Temescal High School and Lakeside High School counseling centers, or by contacting Dee Zasio at 951-244-0123.
