Woman’s Club hosts Cooking Class fundraiser

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club held its 2nd annual Cooking Class fundraiser on Saturday at the senior center. Thirty-five women attended. The event, organized by Rose Marie Hand, Jan May and Lyne Hall, featured prepared tastings by chef Fleur Alise Lawrence.

Alise demonstrated how to make butterflied shrimp with romesco sauce, grilled watermelon feta skewers with balsamic glaze, Mediterranean roast chicken with lemon Israeli couscous salad, avgolemono soup and bananas foster. Recipes were provided to take home.

The Cooking Class is just one of many fundraisers the Woman’s Club hosts throughout the year. The club’s biggest fundraiser is its annual Fashion Show. This year’s show is set for Apr. 27 at the lodge. Tickets to the Sensational 70s theme Fashion Show are $45 and are on sale now. The club will host three pre-parties leading up to the Fashion Show: Disco Fever on Mar. 8, I Dream of Jeannie on Mar. 22 and The Love Boat on Apr. 19.

This year marks the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club 46th anniversary. The non-profit, non-partisan philanthropic club was founded in 1972 and is one of the oldest and most active clubs in Canyon Lake. Its membership is made up of more than 200 women ranging from ages 18 to 95. The club meets monthly on the third Wednesday in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge. Vendor hour is from 9 to 10 a.m.; meeting begins at 10 a.m. Lunch is $14.
