Scholarships

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club announces its Scholarship Program for 2018. Scholarships are open to high school seniors who reside in Canyon Lake and attend a local high school. Applications will be available in high school career centers on Mar. 1. Applications are due by Apr. 5. Free Garden Workshop

Join the UCCE Riverside County Master Gardeners and learn from the experts’ simple methods to prepare your garden for spring tomorrow, Feb. 24, from 10 to 11:30 p.m. at EVMD District Headquarters, 31315 Chaney St, Lake Elsinore. This is a free class. Arrive before class and ask Master Gardener about the latest trends including fairy gardens, butterfly gardens and irrigation methods using ollas. Elks Golf Tournament

The Lake Elsinore/Wildomar Elks Lodge No. 2591 will host a golf tournament on Friday, Mar. 9, at The Links at Summerly in Lake Elsinore. Registration is at 10 a.m.; Shotgun start at 12 p.m. Entry fees are $80 for individuals and $300 for foursomes. Dinner is included at the Awards Ceremony at the lodge located at 33700 Mission Trail, Wildomar. Bowling for a Cause

Lace up your bowling shoes to benefit Michelle’s Place, a breast cancer resource center in Temecula, on Saturday, Mar. 3, at 5 p.m. at Brunswick Cal Oaks Bowl, 40440 California Oaks Rd., Murrieta. The cost is $40 and includes a three-game tournament and cash prizes. Sponsorship opportunities are available. To sign up, call 951-699-5455.

Temecula Rod Run

The Temecula Rod Run is set for Friday, Mar. 2 and Saturday, Mar. 3. For the “Friday Night Cruise,” hundreds of classic vehicles from all over the country cruise Old Town Front Street. The City of Temecula locks down Old Town from Arch to Arch for this event. Watch while these classic vehicles roam around, rev up their engines and honk their horns. This show attracts thousands of automotive enthusiasts and spectators each year. According to organizers, more than 600 cars will be on display. The cruising starts at 5 p.m. and ends around 8 p.m.

Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., is the day to get a close up look at the vehicles and take a peek under the hoods. The cars are freshly detailed and polished to “Show and Shine.” Shuttles will be running on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Canyon Lake Bingo

Bingo, sponsored by the Canyon Lake Lioness Club, is held at the senior center on the first and third Sunday of every month from 1 to 4 p.m. Due to State Law, players must be over the age of 18. Admission is $10 for a six-sheet set; special games are available for $1 each. Veterans Service Awards

California Senator Jeff Stone encourages veterans group and others to nominate worthy individuals for his annual 2018 Veterans Service Awards. The deadline to submit nominations is Apr. 20.

The awards are given annually to 10 military veterans from the 28th Senate District who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help their fellow veterans and members of the community. Awards will be presented in late May. Award recipients must work or live in the 28th District, which is entirely in Riverside County. Expressive Art Class

Michelle’s Place, a breast cancer resource center serving Canyon Lake and surrounding area, hosts a free Expressive Art Class every other Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. The class uses art as a form of therapy and self-exploration. Sessions help to practice creativity while opening the door to calming strategies and awareness techniques. Participants gain a better insight of themselves through sharing feelings and exploring a host of topics with group dialog and discussion. It’s part art, part relaxing, part “therapy,” part discussion and a positive diversion for anyone. No reservations, fees or art experience required. For dates and times, visit michellesplace.org.

Caregivers Connection

The Canyon Lake Community Church’s Caregivers Connection offers an opportunity for caregivers to share common problems, needs and experiences. Anyone caring for a loved one for illnesses such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, stroke, heart issues or Parkinson’s is welcome to attend. The group meets in Room 6 at the church on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. On March 12, Jane Farmer and Shannon Easton will present a talk on “The Rollercoaster Ride of Dementia.” Mar. 26 will be a regular meeting. Gina Fogelman’s from Vineyard Memory Care will speak on Apr. 9. Apr. 23 will be a regular meeting. May 7 will be a Potluck. May 21 will be a visit from Lyn at Hospice of the Valleys who will discuss stress. June 11 and June 18 will be a two-part DVD: “It’s all in your approach.” Teepa Snow will lead the discussion.

Coffee with Nancy

Residents are invited to meet with Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District Division 1 Director Nancy Horton, a Canyon Lake resident, on the last Tuesday of every month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Sports Stop. Nancy is available to talk about changing guidelines for water conservation, answer questions about conservation rebates and the district’s water rates, etc. Residents are invited to bring their water bill for clarification of costs. Coffee is complimentary.

Bereavement Support

Grief Share meets in the chapel at Canyon Lake Community Church on Mondays at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Pastor Pete at 951-244-1877, ext. 204.

Menifee Historical Museum

The Menifee Valley Historical Museum contains displays about Canyon Lake history, provided by Canyon Lake pioneers Don and Elinor Martin who sometimes serve as docents. The museum, located in the old Menifee Elementary School on Garbani Rd. in Menifee, is open Sundays, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Needlework Group

Residents are invited to bring their knitting and crocheting supplies and projects to the Canyon Lake Senior Center on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information, contact Betty Cannavino at 951-244-4126.

Fruit Donation

Helping Hands Group, a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is appealing to residents who have fruit trees to donate the fruit to Helping Hands Group who will pick the fruit and deliver it to those in need of food. Residents wanting fruit picked and people wanting to volunteer are asked to contact Helping Hands Group at 951-821-6080 or contact@helpinghandsgroup.us.

Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery is a program that teaches and gives one tools on how to address their hurts, habits, and hang-ups so that they can move forward and find their purpose and a life filled with joy. Participants discover that they are not alone in what they are going through and find people to walk alongside them. Celebrate Recovery meets on Sundays at 6 p.m. in Building C at Canyon Lake Community Church. A potluck is held at 5:30 on the first Sunday of each month. Childcare is provided.

Free Sprinkler Nozzles

Elsinore Valley Water District is partnering with Western Municipal Water District to offer up to 25 free Toro Precision sprinkler nozzles to its customers. The Toro nozzles are more efficient than regular pop-up spray nozzles and can help customers save both water and money. Supplies are limited.

MOPS

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) meets on the first and third Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at Canyon Lake Community Church. MOPS seeks to support mothers during the early years of their children’s lives. By connecting with other moms and mentor moms, craft projects and guest speakers, women are encouraged in their physical, emotional and spiritual journeys. Childcare is provided.

The moms fellowship over hot coffee and warm breakfast, then enjoy a speaker or craft. Those desiring “coffee talk” are invited to contact Melissa Roberts at 951-757-6010.

CLAWS Bunco

Canyon Lake women are invited to attend the Canyon Lake Association of Women (CLAWS) group bunco on the second Wednesday of the month at 3 p.m. in the Magnolia Room at the country club. The cost is $10 per player. Participants are asked to bring canned and packaged food for the community cupboard. For more information, call Betty Henry at 951-244-3091.

Prayer Line

Are you or someone you know in need of prayer? Canyon Lake Community Church’s Prayer Line is updated daily at 5 p.m. To reach the prayer line, call 951-244-1877 and press menu option 8. To add a request to the prayer line, call the office at 951-244-1877, ext. 200 or fill out a prayer card at the church on Sunday morning. A prayer request may also be submitted using the church’s app.

Genealogy Research

The Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society (LEGS) meets monthly on the second Thursday (except for July and August) from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Mission Trail Community Library, 34303 Mission Trail in Wildomar. Women’s Circles

Women’s Circles are small groups of women who meet once a month in each other’s homes or in Building C at Canyon Lake Community Church. They pray and support missionaries and pray for and encourage one another. Being a member of a Women’s Circle provides an opportunity for small group fellowship. Faith Circle meets the third Monday at 7 p.m.; Julia Circle meets the second Monday at 10:30 a.m.; Priscilla Circle meets the first Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.; Sonshine Circle meets the third Monday at 9:30 a.m.; Sunset Circle meets the second Sunday at 5:30 p.m.; Love Circle meets the second Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. For more information about the Women’s Circles, contact Circle Coordinator Phyllis Duncan at 951-674-4436.

Sewing, Quilting Group

Farmers Market

The Canyon Lake Farmers Market operates every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the upper section of the Towne Center parking lot.

Breast Cancer Resources

Bosom Buddies is a breast cancer support group in Canyon Lake led by Janelle Basham and Kimberly Slingerland. The pair mentor, educate and support newly diagnosed breast cancer patients during their journey. For more information, visit clbosombuddies.com.

Michelle’s Place, 27645 Jefferson Ave., Ste. 117, Temecula, is a breast cancer resource center serving Canyon Lake and surrounding area. The center’s mission is to provide emotional and educational support to those touched with breast cancer and facilitate breast health care services. Steering Wheel Covers

The Lioness Club offers custom-made steering wheel covers made of many different materials and patterns, which keep steering wheels from becoming too hot to handle. They also work well during cold weather. The price is $8 for one; $15 for two. The profits from this project go toward the club’s ongoing philanthropic projects.
