There is a plaque dedicated to Jess Haxton at the East Port launch. Who is Jess Haxton and why was a plaque placed at the launch in his honor?
Jess passed away at his home in Canyon Lake on Easter Sunday 2002. He was 93 years old.
Jess was an avid fisherman, spokesman for the lake and a volunteer for whatever was needed. He participated in Fiesta Day, Chili Cookoff, Parade of Lights, the Canyon Lake Community Theatre group and any other function that needed help.
He held fishing clinics for many years at the lodge pool for children and adults who needed help.
At the recommendation of the Lake and Marina Committee, the POA Board dedicated the East Port launch to the man who was called an “icon on the lake.” A dedication ceremony was held at the East Port launch on Aug. 10, 2002, to unveil a plaque in his honor.
The plaque reads, “Dedicated to Jess Haxton. An unselfish man who dedicated many hours to the community of Canyon Lake and to the betterment of the lake and fishing conditions so that the generations that follow will be able to enjoy it the way he has.”
Jess’ wife, daughters, son-in-law and granddaughter were among those present at the dedication of the plaque memorializing Jess, the “icon on the lake.”
