Chair Volleyball Club wins gold at Senior Games

The Canyon Lake Senior Chair Volleyball Club members competed in the 11th annual Senior Games on Saturday, Feb. 10 in Sun City. Sixteen teams from Canyon Lake, Sun City. Riverside, Norco and Menifee competed. The Canyon Lake Division 1 team won a silver medal. Division 2 and Division 3 teams won gold medals. Canyon Lake teams have won gold for the past 11 years.

The winners are as follows:

Division 1 team: Pat Herman (captain), Pam Oskey (co-captain), Mark Bora, Ray Beal, Pat Engelhardt and Susan French.

There were four teams in Division 1. Each team played the best of four out of seven games. Division 1 team played 18 games. They won a silver medal and trophy.

Division 2 team: Karen Bevans (captain), Louie Lancia (co-captain), Christina Taltoan, PJ Anderson, Janine Schrufer and Ilee Muenzer.

There were five teams in Division 2. Each team played the best of two out of three games. Division 2 team play 6 games. They won a gold medal and trophy.

Division 3 team: Micky Owens (captain), Jim Lafferty (co-captain), Pat Chronis, Joyce Dettling, Penny Owens, Dave Herman and George Middle.

There were seven teams in Division 3. Each team played the best two out of three games. Division 3 team played 12 games. They won a gold medal and trophy.

Debbi Harper, a Canyon Lake resident who introduced Senior Chair Volleyball to Canyon Lake and Sun City 11 years ago, served as the tournament director. Canyon Lakers Karen Bevans, Ray Beal and Susan French severed on the Tournament Council with members of other teams.

The tournament was sponsored by JPN Insurance Services. The Canyon Lake Senior Chair Volleyball Club sponsor is the Sports Stop Pub & Grill.

A barbecue, sponsored by Miller-Jones Mortuary, and Awards Ceremony followed the tournament.
