PLAN invites people living alone to free luncheon

Priscilla Circle of Canyon Lake Community Church will hold its first of three PLAN luncheons for 2018 on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 12 p.m. in the gym at the church, 30515 Railroad Canyon Rd. People living alone or with a relative or roommate are invited to attend.

PLAN (People Living Alone Now) is an outreach for those who live alone. The members of Priscilla Circle plan and provide the free luncheon. The purpose is to share a meal, enjoy fellowship and listen to a short program which usually includes music and a testimony.

Attendees do not have to be a member of the church or Priscilla Circle to attend.

The theme for this luncheon is High Tea. Sandwiches, finger desserts, hot tea and cold beverages will be served. Priscilla Circle members are lending their teapots, china teacups and tiered dessert trays for the luncheon.

Heather Thomas will be presenting the music. Joanette Jorgensen is the scheduled speaker. As always, meeting new people and table conversation are highlights of this warm and friendly afternoon.

“The Circle members believe that by easing the loneliness of those who are elderly, have lost a spouse or caregiver, or who need a healthy meal with a yummy dessert, that they are doing the work we are called to do as followers of Jesus Christ,” said Priscilla Circle member Nancy Horton.

The activities of Pricilla Circle, to love and support the lonely, do not end with the PLAN luncheons. The group has divided up over 200 contacts among the members in teams of two or more women.

Throughout the year, PLAN members receive Christmas, Valentine, Easter and Thanksgiving cards from their Priscilla team. Priscilla teams send birthday cards, make several calls during the year as reminders of the next luncheon and follow up as friends.

Priscilla Circle was established by four members in 2009. The name is dedicated to Priscilla Colwell, a devoted wife, mother and friend to so many ladies in the church. She has since passed away but her spirit lives on.
