Library’s Play Day offers opportunity to interact

The Canyon Lake Library did some clowning around at its monthly Play Day program. Petals the Clown was at the program to perform a silly magic show in place of the Toddler Story Time which did not meet. The children laughed and played as Petals involved them in the program, including a snake wrangler, to collect toy snakes as they magically appeared from cans, boxes and other creative places.

Petals also shared her face painting and balloon sculpture talents during the two-hour program. The treats for December’s Play Day program were provided by the Friends of the Canyon Lake Library.

The next Play Day will be held on Jan. 29. The last Monday of the month program is a cooperation with Typhanie Sharfner, Momco hostess and originator of Mentoring Tiny Humans. The program is designed to bring adults and children into a safe social atmosphere where they can learn and network with other area parents.

The parents and children in preschool years need opportunities to interact with a variety of people. The parents socialize with other parents and network to learn area information and opportunities. Typhanie Shafner in her role as a Momco hostess provides opportunity drawing prizes for the attending adults.

The children meet new friends and have an opportunity to learn social skills. The program provides activities including children’s yoga lead by licensed yoga instructor Tanya Murguia. In January the program will welcome Cheryl Kessler from Movin’ N Music. Cheryl will be downstairs during story time for the children who prefer moving to music over listening quietly to a story.

The library will be closed Monday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Jan. 1. The library will be open its regular hours Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Library services online will also be available during the holiday week. Student tutors will be on holiday break during the week of December 25 to January 1. The program will return after the teens return to school in January.

Miss Ginny’s last story time of the year will be held on Dec. 22 at 11:30 a.m. Stories will center around a snowman theme. The program, developed for ages three to five, also provides a craft opportunity and live music.
