December is family craft month at the Canyon Lake Library. For the second year, the Library has crafts made from repurposed materials for all ages. During the first week, Dec. 1 through Dec. 6, the library had gingerbread men to color and hang, bells to make from red cups and a beading project with repurposed beads collected from donated broken and unwanted jewelry. A new craft will begin on Friday, Dec. 8.
Due to room availability, Friday story time with Miss Ginny has been moved to Dec. 22 at 11:30 a.m. and will feature Christmas stories. The program is for children ages three to five and includes stories, movement and a craft to make and take home.
Tutoring will not meet on Dec. 23 and 30. The Wednesday 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. tutoring of students by accomplished high school students will meet all other dates in December. This is a free program for participants and tutors earn volunteer hours for their time. Participants should be prepared with work to demonstrate where they need help.
The Library will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Monday programs are canceled on those dates. The programs will return at their regular times on Jan. 8. The library will be open the Saturdays before the holiday.
The Friends of the Canyon Lake Library will ring in the new year with a Buck-a-Bag Book sale in January. The sale will start Jan. 6 and end Saturday, Jan. 13. All proceeds go to the Friends of the Canyon Lake Library to support library programs and materials at the Canyon Lake Library.
