FMC hosts Winter Carnival for community

The Family Matters Club held its 4th annual Winter Carnival on Saturday, Dec. 2. Santa arrived in style with the help of Alex Alvarez and his Polar Express golf cart train. Children had the opportunity to take photos with Santa. Each child was treated to a candy cane.

“Special thanks to Byron Evans for taking on such a big role and making all the kids holiday photos so amazing,” said the club’s founder Shawna Bowen.

In addition to photos with Santa, the event featured carnival games, bounce houses, holiday craft making, vendors, falling snow, trackless train rides, face painting,  a demonstration by Impact Martial Arts and an opportunity to write letters to Santa. The event was emceed by Josh Musgrave of IEAVR.com, who also provided the music.

“Special thanks goes out to Jim Doherty for his amazing skill of getting the snow machines up and running.  Everyone really enjoyed the snow,” said Shawna. “The snow fell several times an hour and it was always a bit hit.”

The event concluded with a raffle and a Christmas tree giveaway. Savannah Stevens, Ruben Reed, Shari Dudley, Ruben Flores, Jocelyn Krist and Pattie Smith won the Christmas trees.

The tree giveaway was sponsored by the Canyon Lake Women’s Club, Lowe’s Hardware, Byron Evans of Experian, Patrick McIlvain of Buffalo Wild Wings, Ron and Leigh Martel and Robyn and Mike Zingg.

Shawna said, “The Winter Carnival really helped kick off the holidays in Canyon Lake.” “It was the best turn out all year,” said the club’s Concession Vice President Chuck Casey.
