Canyon Lake Choraleers present JOY! Dec. 16

The talented Canyon Lake Choraleers are busy practicing for their upcoming annual holiday concert on Saturday. Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge.

The concert, simply entitled JOY!, will be filled with familiar carols and Christmas standards and songs from movies like The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, Muppet Christmas Carol and Home Alone. Some pieces will feature the harp, trumpet and flute.

For this season concert, Director Lorilee Bajema has chosen songs that are jubilant, joyful and triumphant. Classical composers are well represented too, a bit of Bach and Mozart, as well as Vivaldi’s invigorating “Gloria” and of course Hallelujah chorus. Audience members will be invited to grab a copy of the score to sing Hallelujah with the group.

This will be the first concert Lorilee will be leading as the new music director for the Choraleers. Lorilee, the daughter of residents Dutch and Patsy Bajema, is a conductor, pianist, singer and teacher who has performed with many choral groups throughout her career, including Halle Choir, Naples Philharmonic Chorus and the Bach Ensemble. She has sung under the lofty batons of conductors James Levine, Kent Nagano and Sir Mark Elder, to name a few.

General admission tickets to JOY! are $15; $20 for VIP with guaranteed seats in the coveted front four rows. Tickets are can be purchased at the POA office, from any Choraleers member and at brownpapertickets.com.

The Canyon Lake Choraleers is a vocal group of men and women who enjoy singing in a choral group that performs spring and fall concerts, including combinations of selected singers and solo performances.
