Canyon Lake Library offers fun free programs

Fire professionals from Canyon Lake Fire Station 60 will be the special guest presenters today at Miss Ginny’s Story Time. Fire prevention and safety will be the topics of discussion. Should an emergency call the fire department away, Miss Ginny is prepared with stories about fire trucks and fire professionals.

The library hosts Toddler Story Time with Gretchen Blackford on Mondays at 11 a.m. The program includes stories and crafts. Spiders will be the subject of the Oct. 23 Toddler Story Time.

Writers Club will not meet on Monday, Oct 23. It will be back at its regular time of 3:30 on Monday, Oct. 30. This is a program for creative writers in the middle school age range. Children older or younger will need to gain permission from the program presenter to attend.

Petals the Clown will be face painting at the library on Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. This is a free program.

The next Play Day will be held on Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The theme is Halloween and costumes are encouraged. Held on the last Monday of the month, the program includes kids yoga, a craft, incorporates the time for Toddler Story Time, then the children return for a treat before ending the day.

Tutoring is conducted several ways at the library for those who need help. Roots to Grow Tutoring is a program started by Trinity Chickwanda and her sister as a way to give back to the community. The program, now run by Trinity in cooperation with the Canyon Lake Library, provides the opportunity for academically accomplished high school students to assist lower grade students with school subjects. Mathematics service is often needed but other subjects are also in demand of assistance. Trinity works in cooperation with the library to organize the volunteer tutors to be available on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m.

The library is located inside the city hall building in the Towne Center. Hours are Mondays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library is closed Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.  For more information, call 951-244-9181.
