Pinochle Club seeking new players

The Canyon Lake Pinochle Club is seeking new players to join them on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. at the senior center. “We have sodas, munchies and lots of laughs,” said member Marlys Shilling. “We welcome old-times and are willing to teach newcomers because we want Pinochle to last another thirty years.”

Pinochle is a card game that involves exchanging and putting together different combinations of cards, or “melds,” in order to score points. Learning the basic rules of Pinochle only takes a few minutes, but the fast-passed excitement of the game can provide countless hours of fun. Once you’ve familiarized with the values of each card in the deck, you can begin building you hand to win points and seize the momentum you need to come out on top.

The Canyon Lake Pinochle Club was founded in 1989 by Al Funk. The club played at the lodge with 8 tables and 30 members. The club was moved to Blue Bird Hall, before it became the Community Patrol office, then to the POA building and eventually to its current home at the senior center. Doris Belleville, Keith Clay and Tom Furman are three of the original members who still play.
