Menifee Oktoberfest

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 26800 Newport Rd., Menifee, is hosting Oktoberfest on Oct. 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will feature beer, traditional food, craft fair, German music and raffle. for more information, visit menifeelutheran.org.

Paws on the Promenade

The spooktacular Paws on the Promenade dog walk will take place on Oct. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Promenade Temecula. This event features pet adoptions, treat bags for participants, vendor booths and pet parade and costume contest. Sponsorship opportunities are available. New costume contest categories this year include Spookiest, Most Original, Darling Divas, Dashing Dudes, Owner and Pet Duo (12 and under and 12 and over). Caregivers Connection

The Canyon Lake Community Church’s Caregivers Connection offers an opportunity for caregivers to share common problems, needs and experiences. Anyone caring for a loved one for illnesses such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, stroke, heart issues or Parkinson’s is welcome to attend. The group meets in Room 6 at the church on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. The Oct. 9 meeting will be a regular meeting; Oct. 23 will be a potluck. Free Sprinkler Nozzles

Elsinore Valley Water District is partnering with Western Municipal Water District to offer up to 25 free Toro Precision sprinkler nozzles to its customers. The Toro nozzles are more efficient than regular pop-up spray nozzles and can help customers save both water and money. Supplies are limited.

Customers can print a voucher from the program’s website and then redeem at participating irrigation supply stores. For more information, visit freesprinklernozzles.com.

National PTA Reflections

Temescal Canyon High School Reflection entries are due to the school office by October 13. Founded in 1969, Reflections engages nearly 300,000 students and their families in arts education activities each year by encouraging students to explore the arts for fun and recognition. The theme for this year is “Within Reach.” Pre-K through grade 12 students are encouraged to submit original works of art in one or more of the following categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Photography, Visual Arts, Musical Composition. Students with disabilities may receive special accommodations by entering the special Artist Division, all abilities are encouraged to participate. Winners move up to the district and possibly state judging. Students can win a medal, savings bond and an all-expense paid trip to State PTA convention.

Titans Football

Football players are selling discount cards for $10. The discount cards are valid through June 20, 2018 and good at 30 local locations. They can be purchased from any Titan football player or by emailing tchsfootballboosterclub@gmail.com. Local businesses are being sought to purchase a tax-deductible ad in the football program that is printed every home game. For more information, contact Erin Balli at 951-852-5183.

Trunk or Treat

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 26800 Newport Rd., Menifee, is hosting a Trunk or Treat Car Show with a retro Halloween theme on Oct. 28. The event will feature hot rods, candy, costumes and crafts. Those who would like to participate in the Car Show should bring candy, chair and decorations for your trunk. Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery is a program that teaches and gives one tools on how to address their hurts, habits, and hang-ups so that they can move forward and find their purpose and a life filled with joy. Participants discover that they are not alone in what they are going through and find people to walk alongside them. Celebrate Recovery meets on Sundays at 6 p.m. in Building C at Canyon Lake Community Church.

Coffee with Nancy

Residents are invited to meet with Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District Division 1 Director Nancy Horton, a Canyon Lake resident, the last Tuesday of every month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Sports Stop. Nancy is available to talk about changing guidelines for water conservation, answer questions about conservation rebates and the district’s water rates, etc. Residents are invited to bring their water bill for clarification of costs. Coffee is complimentary.

Genealogy Research

The Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society (LEGS) meets monthly on the second Thursday (except for July and August) from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Mission Trail Community Library, 34303 Mission Trail in Wildomar. Menifee Historical Museum

The Menifee Valley Historical Museum contains displays about Canyon Lake history, provided by Canyon Lake pioneers Don and Elinor Martin who sometimes serve as docents. The museum, located in the old Menifee Elementary School on Garbani Rd. in Menifee, is open Sundays, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Lioness Bingo

Lioness Bingo is held at the Canyon Lake Senior Center on the first and third Sunday of every month from 1 to 4 p.m. Due to State Law, Bingo is limited to those over the age of 18. Admission is $10 for a six-sheet set; special games are available for $1 each. Those wishing to attend from outside the community should call Nancy Coughlin at 951-805-0543 or Joanna Spiller at 951-244-1553 for gate entrance.

Farmers Market

The Canyon Lake Farmers Market operates every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the upper section of the Towne Center parking lot.

CLAWS Bunco

Canyon Lake women are invited to attend the Canyon Lake Association of Women (CLAWS) group bunco on the second Wednesday of the month in the Magnolia Room at the country club. The cost is $10 per player; games begin at 3 p.m. Participants are asked to bring canned and packaged food for the community cupboard. For more information, call Betty Henry at 951-244-3091.

MOPS

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) meets on the first and third Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at Canyon Lake Community Church. MOPS seeks to support mothers during the early years of their children’s lives. By connecting with other moms and mentor moms, craft projects and guest speakers, women are encouraged in their physical, emotional and spiritual journeys. Child care is provided.

The moms fellowship over hot coffee and warm breakfast, then enjoy a speaker or craft. Those desiring “coffee talk” are invited to contact Melissa Roberts at 951-757-6010.

Women’s Circles

Women’s Circles are small groups of women who meet once a month in each other’s homes or in Building C at Canyon Lake Community Church. They pray and support missionaries, and pray for and encourage one another. Being a member of a Women’s Circle provides an opportunity for small group fellowship.

Faith Circle meets the third Monday at 7 p.m.; Julia Circle meets the second Monday at 10:30 a.m.; Priscilla Circle meets the first Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.; Ruth Circle meets the second Wednesday at 10 a.m.; Sonshine Circle meets the third Monday at 9:30 a.m.; Sonrise Circle meets the second Sunday at 5:30 p.m.; Love Circle meets the second Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.

Breast Cancer Resources

Bosom Buddies is a breast cancer support group in Canyon Lake led by Janelle Basham and Kimberly Slingerland. The pair mentor, educate and support newly diagnosed breast cancer patients during their journey. For more information, visit CLBosomBuddies.com.

Michelle’s Place is a breast cancer resource center serving this area, located at 27645 Jefferson Ave., Ste. 117, Temecula. The center’s mission is to provide emotional and educational support to those touched with breast cancer and facilitate breast health care services. Needlework Group

Sewing, Quilting Group

Residents are invited to the senior center for sewing and quilting on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring a project and sewing machine, or just visit and check it out. For more information, contact Terri Ireland at 951-246-2571.

Steering Wheel Covers

The Lioness Club offers custom-made steering wheel covers made of many different materials and patterns, which keep steering wheels from becoming too hot to handle. They also work well during cold weather. The price is $8 for one; $15 for two. The profits from this project go toward the club’s ongoing philanthropic projects. Host Families Sought

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs, in cooperation with area high schools, is looking for local families to host boys and girls between the ages of 15 to 18 from a variety of countries: Norway, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Japan, to name a few.

ASSE students are enthusiastic and excited to experience American culture while they practice their English. They also love to share their own culture and language with their host families.

The exchange students have pocket money for personal expenses and full health, accident and liability insurance. ASSE students are selected based on academics and personality, and host families can choose their student from a wide variety of backgrounds, countries and personal interests.

Clothing Wanted

A couple in Canyon Lake regularly makes deliveries of food and clothing to the Riverside City Mission where the needs of the hungry and homeless are continuous. Donations can be dropped off at Coldwell Banker in the Towne Center, 31620 Railroad Canyon Rd.
