The Friday Flyer introduces two new columnists

The Friday Flyer would like to introduce readers to its newest columnists, Dave Dain and Nova Blanco-Rico.

Dave joined The Friday Flyer team this month. His first article is featured in this week’s edition on page A9. The former writer for Cycle News, a motocross news source, will be writing about Canyon Lake sports events. Learn to Ride Day, Wakeboard Club tournaments, Ski Club tournaments and Little League tournaments are some of the events Dave will covering. His hobbies include wakeboarding, fishing, cross-country mountain bike racing and an occasional triathlon.

Dave and Jennifer, his wife of 27 years, moved to Canyon in 2016. “We are long time river people and got tired of the drive,” said Dave. The couple have been married for 27 years. They enjoy being involved in the community and serving as volunteers. Dave is the current Commodore for the Yacht Club, Jennifer serves as the Yacht Club’s First Mate and is a member of the Woman’s Club.

Nova also joined The Friday Flyer team this month. The Teen Talk columnist’s first article is featured in this week’s edition on page B5. Nova  be writing about teen topics and school events.

Nova, 17, is a senior at Temescal Canyon High School where he is involved in campus life. He is the editor for Titan TV, the school’s news show that is presented every Friday, and members of the Photo/Video Club, Interact Club and tennis team.  In past years, Nova was a member of the baseball, track and cross-country teams. “I changed sports because I couldn’t find one I enjoyed until tennis,” he said.

Nova’s hobbies include writing poetry and short stories, drawing and photography. He said his hobbies are the main reason why he wanted to pursue being a journalist.
