CL Library offers free programs, school help

School is back and tutoring help is available for all ages through the Canyon Lake Library and the Riverside County Library System (RCLS) website. The Canyon Lake Library has high school students available on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m. to assist lower grade students with school subjects.

The RCLS website at rivlib.net offers a professional tutoring service to cardholders of all ages. Children, as well as teens and adults, can receive assistance. Help with GED study, resumes, cover letters, update job mathematics; citizenship studies and other topics are all available through Brain Fuse. Scholastic Go and World Book are also available from home to assist with school studies.

Language help is available through Pronounciator, also a RCLS online offering. Professional journals and other resources suitable for professional and university work are available in the Gale database Infotrac General Reference Gold.

Online eResources offered on the RCLS website rivlib.net contain many databases and subscription web pages. The library system makes these available free to cardholders.

The Writers Club for middle school children will start up again on Sept. 11 at 3:30 p.m. This creative group program led by Mrs. Blackford is for middle school age kids who enjoy writing prose, poetry and other forms of literature. Participants should come prepared with tools for writing.

The Club meets weekly for one hour of literature fun. The program began during the Summer Reading Program and is now being extended as an after school program.

Toddler Story Time, for ages 3 and under, meets at 11 a.m. every Monday.

Preschoolers in Miss Ginny’s Story Time for Preschoolers had a fun time playing ball at the library on Aug. 25. The children listened to stories about baseball, sang songs with Mr. Bill at the piano and made baseball crafts to take home. Participants also enjoyed a batting practice.

Miss Ginny’s Preschool Story Time meets again on Friday, Sept. 8 at 11:30 a.m. This interactive story time helps children to develop and use vocabulary, sing and move in a group, plus a craft is available for the children to make and take home encouraging continued discussion of the topic. Miss Ginny’s Preschool Story Time meets every two weeks on Friday.

The Canyon Lake Library offers free books, large print books, free internet access, reading programs, book clubs and more. All programs at the Canyon Lake Library are free to the public and do not require library membership.

Membership is required to check out materials and to use many of the internet programs available from home.

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month. A small reward will be available for those who obtain their first RCLS card at the Canyon Lake Library in September. The first card is free; replacement cards are $1. RCLS cards are useable at all libraries in the cooperative library system.

Any item checked out on the card may be returned to any library where the card can be used. Parents or legal guardian permission is needed for a child’s card.

The library will be open Labor Day weekend, Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., but closed on Monday to observe the holiday.
