Frances’ 1965 Ford Falcon is Car of the Month

The Canyon Lake Car Club has chosen Mikey and Daryl Frances 1965 Ford Falcon Futura convertible as the Car of the Month. The car has a V8 289 engine and factory air conditioning. The Frances bought the car five years ago. “It rides really nice. It’s a solid car, no rattles and the engine runs great,” said Mickey.

“It was an old faded green color, like the color of a refrigerator from the 60s,” says Daryl. The Frances had it painted sky blue with blue and white upholstery and a white convertible top. They stripped all the parts and put it back together themselves when they got it out of the paint shop.

The couple also own a 1954 Chevy Sedan Delivery, which they use for promotions for their yogurt stores in the Clovis and Fresno areas.

Mickey and Daryl moved to Canyon Lake nearly 8 years ago. They joined the Car Club a year later. Since moving to Canyon Lake, Mickey and Daryl have a hosted a portion of the Garage Mystery Tour, a progressive dinner put on by the Car Club every summer. They have also opened and decorated their home for the Woman’s Club Christmas Tour.

Mickey is retired from Riverside County Sheriffs and was living in Hemet, Daryl is an artist and actress from Culver City. The couple met on the Internet and romance soon blossomed. Then they had to decide where they were going to live.

Mickey remembered attending a party in Canyon Lake several years before and he brought Daryl to see it. “I fell in love with Canyon Lake the moment we drove through the gate. People were walking, riding in golf carts, waving to each other”, said Mickey. They haven’t been disappointed. They love it here and said they plan to be long-term Canyon Lakers.

Canyon Lakers will have a chance to see hundreds of classic cars and trucks at the Canyon Lake Car Show, annual event hosted by the Canyon Lake Car Club, in October at the lodge.

The Car Club holds monthly meetings on the first Thursday in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge. Anyone owning a pre-1973 vehicle is welcomed. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the general meeting at 6:30 p.m.

At the meeting members learn about upcoming events, listen to guest speakers and share automotive experiences. Finger foods are served and a 50/50 drawing rounds out the evening.
