Library’s Reptile Party attracts hundreds of participants

The Canyon Lake Library’s Reptile Party for kids attracted so many participants that the library had to turn people away. According to Librarian Sandra Brautigam, more than 200 people attended the party. “The program was not as hands-on as planned due to the high volume of people,” said Sandra. “Because of the size of the crowd, the program’s petting and handling portion had to be moved outside.”

The party was held on Monday and featured Fluffy the python and other reptilian friends.

Due to the interest in the program, Sandra said the library will look into providing the program again, possibly with more times and restricted space so the program can keep its hands-on charm.

The library will host an adult information program on the use of essential oils tomorrow at 1 p.m.  The program, Natural Solutions for Healthy Empowered Living, will be led by Jerry and Ruth Eckman, doTerra wellness advocates, who will share their knowledge of this alternative health choice, answer questions and clear up some basic misconceptions.

According to Sandra, the alternative health option is a popular inquiry for books at the library and a popular topic of conversation. The library hopes the program will provide information and clarify the choice for interested community members.

The Summer Reading Program continues with the first drawing date for extra reading prizes coming up on Monday. The program uses incentives, such as the extra reading drawing prizes, to tip the scales towards reading in competition with other activities available to children during the summer.

Library programs continuing throughout the July summer program include Toddler Story Time every Monday at 11 a.m. and Writers Club for middle school age children on Mondays at 12:30 p.m.

The library has two upcoming contests: Fashion Design and Solution Design. Information for each contest is available at the library. The Fashion Design Contest involves participants designing a fashion for their stuffed animal or Barbie like doll. Once the design is made, the participant takes a picture of it and sends it to canyonlakelibrary@rivlib.net or brings it to the library. The photos will be placed on the library’s Facebook page and the one with the most likes will win a JoAnn’s gift certificate.

The Solution Design Contest involves creating a solution for the problem of not remembering your bags when you go into a store. Entry forms are available at the library during open hours. Monday is the final day of submissions for the Solution Design Contest.

The Canyon Lake Library is located inside the city hall building. Hours are Mondays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library is closed Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

The Canyon Lake Library is a member of the Riverside County Library System and honors cards and returns from other affiliated libraries. For more information, call 951-244-9181.
