Woman’s Club to host 3rd annual Mermaid Festival

Calling all mermaids, pirates and wenches. Save the date for the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club 3rd annual Mermaid Festival. This community-wide event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Indian Beach. This is a free event for residents and their guests.

Mermaid Festival Chair Lyne Hall said the festival will include a Mermaid Marketplace with vendors, Mermaid Lounge selling beer, wine, soft drinks, water and the signature Mermaid drink with a color changing cup, kid’s zone, contests, food, opportunity and grand prize drawings, silent auction and a Mermaid Grotto for photo opportunities with the Tattooed Mermaid, Arctic Mermaid and Little Mermaid.

The Woman’s Club will be selling street tacos and kid-friendly food.

The Family Matters Club will host a kid’s zone area featuring games and jumpers. Wristbands are $5 each.

Entertainment at the Mermaid Festival will be provided by local entertainer Aprile DeAnne. Also, look for an appearance by rival “Pirates of the Lake,” otherwise known as the Canyon Lake Yacht Club.

There will be a Little Mermaid Costume Contest, Little Pirate Costume Contest, adult Best Dressed Mermaid/Pirate/Wench Costume Contest and a Knobby Knees Contest for men ages 18 years old and older.

The grand prize drawing prizes include a Lily Pad, Kayak, over-sized inflatable rubber duck and three $100 cash prizes.

Silent auction items include a Wyland painting and sunset champagne pontoon cruise; opportunity drawing prizes include items donated by vendors and local merchants.

Everyone is invited to come in mermaid or pirate-inspired garb.
