Taco Tuesdays are back!

Hungry crowds and perfect weather helped kick off the first Taco Tuesday of the summer this week at the lower level of the lodge and Sunset Beach. The weekly event began June 6 and is scheduled to run through August 8. Hours are 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Organizers say they have been working hard to give Canyon Lake a fun and family-friendly environment for residents and their guests to enjoy. In addition to tacos, each week will include vendors, a bounce house for kids and music provide by resident DJ Mike Shroyer of Good Time Entertainment.

Mike will entertain the crowd with interactive games, contests and a different music genre each week. Reggae music will be featured at the next Taco Tuesday. Mike will be featuring pop music on June 20, classic rock music on June 27 and country music on July 11. Due to the holiday, Taco Tuesday will not be held on July 4.

This year’s Taco Tuesday menu offers up more than just tacos. On the menu are two combo plates ($5.25 and $6.25 as well as a la carte items that include cheese enchiladas ($1.25), ground beef tostada salads ($5.25), meatless tostada salads ($4.25), nachos ($3), rice ($1.25), beans ($1.25) and tortilla chips ($1). The food is catered by the Lighthouse Restaurant.

Snacks are available at the snack bar located in the Sunset Beach Room. Available snacks include cotton candy, Hawaiian Shave Ice with a dozen popular flavors and frappuccinos. Those looking for an alternative to the taco menu can find hot dogs for sale at the snack bar.

The indoor bar offers both fountain and alcoholic drinks. Refillable Taco Tuesday logo cups with a margarita are available for $14. Refills are $5.

Taco Tuesdays can get busy and parking may be limited in the first few weeks. However, to help those who have to park farther away, the POA provides a complimentary golf cart shuttle service. The shuttle picks up and drops off on the Lighthouse/Canyon Club loop and at the lodge entry.

The main dining room at the Lighthouse Restaurant is closed during Taco Tuesday’s. The lodge lounge is open.

The summer family fun doesn’t end with Taco Tuesdays. Residents are invited to put on their favorite Hawaiian shirt and head down to lodge for “Maui Monday” on Labor Day, September 4.

When the sun goes down, guests are invited to gather on the beach for a Hawaiian-style show that will feature hula dancers, fire dancers and Samoan drummers.
