City council appoints Randy Bonner mayor

Randy Bonner

By a vote of 3-2, the Canyon Lake City Council appointed Randy Bonner mayor during a city council meeting on June 1. At the same meeting, the council voted Vicki Warren mayor pro tem by a vote of 5-0.

The appointments come on the heels of Dawn Haggerty’s resignation during a specially-scheduled city council meeting on April 26.

Dawn resigned as mayor following an internal review of expense reports submitted by city council members. An Ad HOC Reimbursement Committee determined that there were several mistakes in some of the reimbursements Dawn had submitted.

In light of the investigation, Dawn resigned as mayor. She did not resign as a member of the council.

Randy said, “The city council meeting on June 1 was very well attended by our citizens. The speakers were most active and respectful with their comments. We have an aggressive list of items to accomplish soon. Among them, approving the 2017-2018 budget, opening Fire Station 60 on July 1, improving/replacing the plants and trees on the Railroad Canyon Rd. median and increasing the completion of mutual interests of POA members and Canyon Lake citizens through the monthly Roundtable meetings.

Randy, a 20-year resident of Canyon Lake, served on the Canyon Lake City Council from 2010 to 2014. He was mayor in 2014. Prior to serving on the council, Randy served on the Canyon Lake POA Board of Directors from 2008 to 2010.

The next city council meeting will be a Special Meeting on Tuesday, June 20, at 12 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
