‘Fortunate Son’ rocks lodge with CCR classics

The Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild presented its most recent concert, “Fortunate Son,” last Saturday, May 20, in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge. Billed as “The number one tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) and John Fogerty,” the crowd rocked the night away to such classic songs as “Born on the Bayou,” “Suzy Q,” and “Proud Mary.”

Lead singer Brad Ford has starred in tribute to John Fogerty for over 20 years. He reiterated his desire to personify the spirit and grit of one of America’s favorite rock and roll bands. Ford enthusiastically interacted with the crowd and “jokingly” invited the audience to buy the band drinks. Led by Canyon Laker Bob Templeton, several in the crowd eagerly responded to the request.

Coinciding with Armed Forces Day, Program Director Ron Martel asked the audience to recognize veterans at the beginning of the show. Not only did the audience show their heartfelt appreciation, the band came out to salute those that gave so much for freedom. The band, who has played for U.S. troops at home and abroad, dedicated a couple songs to the men and women in uniform.

Due to popular demand, the Fine Arts Guild implemented a dance floor in the back of the room for this concert. Several dozen audience members spent most of the concert rocking to their favorite tunes. Rose Marie Hand expressed to Ron that the dance floor was an overwhelming success and would like it even larger at the next event. Dennis Cullen, A newcomer to Guild events said, “This is the best tribute band we’ve ever seen; sounded just like CCR.”

Guild President Travis Montgomery said, “We are very fortunate to have a group of this caliber play here. With such an enthusiastic crowd, “Fortunate Son” has already requested to return to the lake. The Guild Operations Director Bert Barbay added, “This music unites rock, country, blues and folk. And, I made four new friends.”

The Guild will also be featuring “Smooth Sounds”, a tribute to Santana, on October 14 and “Catch a Wave, a Beach Boys tribute band, on December 2 at the lodge.

Tickets are $45 VIP Reserved; $25 General Admission. General Admission tickets can be purchased now at the POA office and on the Guild’s website at canyonlakeguild.com.

The Fine Arts Guild will also be offering the community a free summer concert on August 5 at 8 p.m. at Holiday Harbor featuring “Little Lies Band,” a Fleetwood Mac tribute band.

Collaborating with the Canyon Lake Junior Women’s Club and the Canyon Lake Family Matters Club, the concert will be preceded with family fun and festivities starting at 4 p.m.
