Golfers invited to CLAPP’s Beautification Tournament

The Canyon Lake Association of Past Presidents (CLAPPS) invites all golfers to participate in its annual Beautification Tournament to help raise funds for the beautification of the golf course. The tournament, to be held May 6, is open to the public.

The entry fee is $45 and includes lunch and prizes for Jack and Jills, Jack and Jacks and Jill and Jills. The format will be Partners Best Ball. Golfers may pick their own foursome. A live auction will follow the awards ceremony. Signups are taken at the Pro Golf Shop.

All proceeds from this event will be used for golf course beautification projects. The CLAPPS has a long history of supporting the golf course, having raised over $50,000 through the years for golf course improvements. Past projects include brass yard markers, brass distance plaques, expanding the putting green and a practice bunker to name a few. Recently, 13 benches were purchased at a cost of nearly $10,000.

The Beautification Tournament is formally known as the Tree Tournament. In 1982, Jim Magill and his late wife Christine started the Tree Tournament. The entry fee was one 15-gallon tree. As a result of the tournament, 217 trees were donated and planted on the golf course that year. When no more trees were needed, the tournament name was changed to the Beautification Tournament.
