Deadlines approaching for student scholarship opportunities

The Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club, Jr. Women’s Club, Woman’s Club, Yacht Club, Choraleers and Canyon Lake Chapter WW of P.E.O. are all offering student scholarship opportunities.

9ers Golf Club

The Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club is currently accepting applications for its 2017 Golf Scholarship. All students are encouraged to apply. Applications are available in the Canyon Lake Golf Pro Shop and at Temescal Canyon High School. The deadline is April 7, 2017.

The scholarship will be presented at the high school’s awards ceremony in May.

Jr. Women’s Club

The Jr. Women’s Club scholarships are available to graduating seniors, both male and female, who plan on continuing their education. Continuing education can be in the form of four-year or two-year universities, vocational schools, institutes and academies. The scholarships are open to Canyon Lake residents only. Private school students are welcome to apply.

The application can be picked up through high school counselors at Temescal Canyon, Lakeside and Elsinore High Schools, or by emailing Scholarship Chairperson Shannon Anderson at avalon.monroe@gmail.com. Applications are due by April 18, 2017.

Woman’s Club

Since 1995, the Canyon Lake Woman’s Cub has awarded scholarships amounting to more than $190,000 to 153 local high school graduates and more than $54,000 to 53 continuing education students.

This year, the club is please to be able to continue offering scholarships to high school senior girls as well as to women who are pursuing continuing education.

Applications are available at various high school career centers and at canyonlakewomansclub.com. The application deadline is April 19, 2017. For more information, call Leslie Zack Brand at 909-957-4247.

Yacht Club

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club scholarships are open to high school seniors who reside in Canyon Lake and attend a local high school. Applications are available in high school career centers. The application deadline is April 19. For more information, contact Karen Doherty at 951-244-8440.

Chorleers

The Canyon Lake Choraleers have established a $500 scholarship awared to encourage and assist outstanding young people to pursue their interest in the performing arts. The application deadline is May 1 at 4 p.m.

President Larry Garland said, “This is the first year that this is being offered and we are excited to give back to our community and help out a deserving student interested in continuing his or her education in the arts.”

To be eligible, the applicant must be a resident or relative of a resident of Canyon Lake, actively pursuing higher education, currently registered for a recognized educational institute or home program that meets the state and local minimum requirement, have a GPA of 3.0 at the end of the most recent semester and plan to attend a two-year community college, four-year university, or technical, trade or vocational school majoring in the arts at the time the application is submitted and during the academic school year when first eligible to apply to the education institution.

Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted or considered. The winner will be announced at the Choraleers Spring Concert on May 21 at 3 p.m. at the Lodge.

P.E.O.

The Canyon Lake Chapter WW of P.E.O is offering a $500 college scholarship to senior high school girls or women currently enrolled in college.

To apply, submit a short essay about yourself, what you have accomplish in high school and your plans for college. If you are currently attending college, write a short essay about yourself and why P.E.O. should consider you for this scholarship.
