Twirlers Square Dance Club celebrates 43rd anniversary

The Canyon Lake Twirlers Square Dance Club celebrated its 43rd anniversary with a “Mardi Gras Mania” theme square dance held at the Lodge on March 12.

The event was attended by more than 115 square dancers from the Inland and San Diego square dance clubs. Jim Randall and Ray Holmes served as the callers. Howard Delcambre served as the cuer for the round dancing.

The Canyon Lake Twirlers Square Dance Club was formed in 1974 by Vickie Irvine. The group danced at the old lodge. When the Lodge reopened after renovation, 400 dancers attended the first Twirler dance.

The Twirlers have been active supporters of Canyon Lake and other clubs within the community. They’ve participated in many Fiesta Days and Tree-Lightings.

Dances are held every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and once a month on the second Sunday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at the Kay Ceniceros Senior Center in Menifee. For more information, call Jackie Brown at 951-694-3650.
