Mike Pinera is the founding member of The Classic Rock All Stars, the headlining act for the next “Concerts at the Lodge” concert on Saturday April 22 in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge.
Mike is the lead guitar and vocalist for the super group composed of the original hit making artists playing their original smash hit songs from the 1960s and 1970 bands Steppenwolf, Blue Oyster Cult, Blues Image, and Iron Butterfly.
Doug Schultz, talent buyer and producer of the POA “Concerts at the Lodge” series says, “Mike was the singer, songwriter and producer from the legendary rocks groups Blues Image and Iron Butterfly. Blues Image had a major hit song with ‘Ride Captain Ride,’ which Mike co-wrote and sang.”
Mike later joined Iron Butterfly and performed worldwide the mega hit “In a Gadda Da Vida.” It’s the first Platinum Record award in music history. The song as been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Pinera’s playing and songs are featured on the albums Metamorphosis, Evolution, Best of Iron Butterfly and Light & Heavy the DVD, In A Gadda Da Vida with Pinera is still a best seller today.
Later, Mike joined Alice Cooper. He is on the albums Special Forces and Zipper Catches Flesh.
Joining Mike on stage at the Lodge will be Goldy McJohn from Steppenwolf and Albert Bouchard from Blue Oyster Cult. Collective album sales from the bands these original artists played with total over one hundred million with number one hits like Magic Carpet Ride, Don’t Fear the Reaper, Godzilla and Born to be Wild.
Goldy McJohn is best known as the original keyboardist and founder of the group Steppenwolf. The band’s debut album included “Born to be Wild,” a song that reached number two on the charts. “Magic Carpet Ride” and “Rock Me’ were also U.S. Top 10 singles. In 1964, Goldy played with a local band, the Mynah Birds, which included Rick James, Bruce Palmer of Buffalo Springfield and Neil Young. Originally a classically trained pianist, he was a pioneer in the early use of the electronic organ in rock music.
Drummer and songwriter Albert Bouchard is a founding member of Blue Oyster Cult. Blue Oyster Cult sold more than 24 million albums worldwide. Albert left the band in 1981. Never predictable and always entertaining, Albert’s mastery of rhythm and dynamics is always a treat to hear.
Prescott Niles is an American rock bassist best know as the bassist with The Knack. The Knack’s song, ,”My Sharona,” became the number one song of 1979. While living in England, Prescott played with Jeff Beck, Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones) and other London notables. Prescott also had the privilege to work with George Harrison for the soundtrack “Shanghai Surprise” (starring Madonna and Sean Penn).
