‘Many Wonders of Christmas’ set for tomorrow

The “Many Wonders of Christmas” is tomorrow, Saturday, November 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Canyon Lake Community Church (CLCC). The Many Wonders of Christmas luncheon started seven years ago as a kickoff to the Christmas season, and as an outreach for women’s ministries. The committee works through the year to attend to every detail, from the menu, to the favors, the centerpieces, the decorations, the speakers and music, and the Christmas trees. This year’s chair, Diane Cline, has had the help of a dozen CLCC women who are experienced in Many Wonders from years past.

As guests arrive, they purchase opportunity tickets for thirty lighted Christmas trees, about 3 ft. high. The lovely trees are decorated by local artists, businesses and volunteers. One tree will have Disney memorabilia and four tickets to Disneyland. Some have gift certificates to beauty salons, restaurants and even the Canyon Lake Country Club Golf Shop. Paloma Valley High School Cheer is decorating a tree as well as the Menifee Middle  School Band. Lynda Ofstad has been in charge of obtaining the trees.

The speaker and vocalist will be Miss Lillie Knauls, known as the “Hat Lady”.  Her inspirational program is all about her testimony. Many have heard her beautiful voice, but do not know that she was a Gospel singer for many years, appeared on Gaither videos, was once part of the Edwin Hawkins Singers (“Oh Happy Day!”) and graced the stage at the Grand Ole Opry.

Every table will be decorated with a poinsettia and one lucky table guest will win it. The large poinsettias on the stage will also be given away. Each guest will take home a beautiful bookmark with the Poinsettia story.

The catered lunch will include salad, au gratin potatoes, chicken Marsala, vegetable medley, bread and butter and cheesecake for dessert. Charlene Sheraga is coordinating the menu. Bob Sheraga leads a group of husbands of committee members who serve the lunch.

Tickets went on sale October 23. They cost $20 each or a table for $160. For more information, call Sandra Fulmer at 951-244-7394.
