Letter: Measure V

Editor, The Friday Flyer:

On November 8, LEUSD is asking voters to consider Measure V, a $105 million general obligation bond to provide more classroom capacity; to increase student skills in math and science; to expand career pathways and technology; to increase energy efficiency and to improve school safety.

Measure V is critical to ensuring student success in college and careers in a competitive 21st Century economy. The bond will provide a stable revenue source for intentional technology and funding repairs to existing facilities. It will support cutting-edge math and science instruction, while improving school safety, and making schools more energy-efficient, The bond will benefit all LEUSD schools, not just a few.

Measure V was written by the LEUSD School Board to be highly accountable to taxpayers. Measure V will create a citizens’ oversight committee to monitor and report on all project expenditures. Bond funds would stay local, and cannot be taken away by the State or used for other purposes. Measure V funds cannot be used for teacher or administrator salaries. Annual audits on Measure V projects and expenditures will be open and transparent.

LEUSD serves diverse communities in which families of all backgrounds can thrive. Measure V is an investment in our students. Maintaining outstanding education is what Measure V is all about: keeping schools competitive, safe and in good repair; supporting all students in college and career success. Learn the facts at www.measurev.org. I strongly urge a “yes” vote on Measure V.
