Letter: Lake Lease

Editor, The Friday Flyer:

In recent weeks both Ben Novell and Dawn Haggerty have written letters expressing issues regarding the lake lease.

Both provide good points to consider. However, I believe uncertainty concerning the lease has caused significant downward pressure on property values as reflected in comparable sales, and thus home equity.

Loss of home equity far outweighs the relatively small increase in lake cost over the next six years. Real estate professionals confirm this.

If we accept the current lease, eliminate the attending uncertainty, bite the bullet on the cost increase (projected $1.08 per day per lot by 2022) and plan a rock solid strategy to negotiate the next lease, I believe we would all be better off.
