Library to host ‘Leo’ author and illustrator

The Canyon Lake Library will host author Joy Kish and illustrator Jamie Frederick for a free program on September 23, at 11:30 a.m., in the City Multi-purpose Room, downstairs at City Hall.

“Leo the Extraordinarily Ordinary Lizard” is a book that incorporates animals from the Santa Rosa Plateau recreation area.  The book has been included in the Canyon Lake Library collection and is checked out frequently. The September 23 program will include a reading from the book and a discussion concerning its creation and publication, followed by a craft or children lead by the book’s illustrator.

Recent events at the Library included a Preschool Craft and Story Time on September 9 that had a teddy bear theme and a birthday party for Curious George on  September 12, led by volunteer Jenny Teperson. The beloved character was created 75 years ago by Hans Augusto Rey, and the curious little monkey is still getting into mischief to the delight of children all over the world.

Please note that the Library will be closed today, September 16, to allow staff members to attend a yearly event that includes education and information concerning new trends in library service. The All Staff Day event will include all the Riverside County branches.

Books normally due on Friday, September 16, received extended due dates to the next open day for the Library. The Canyon Lake Library book drop is available outside City Hall for anyone wishing to return items.

Toddler Story Time meets every Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Kids Cove of the Library. This story time is developed for children under age 3. Hearing words is an important part of brain development, and the group environment builds socialization comfort. After the story time, children are invited to play with the developmental toys and parents often network with others from the community.

Saturday mornings, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., high school honor students assist younger students with math and other school subjects. For the teens, they offer SAT college test preparation tips and discussion.

All programs at the Canyon Lake Library are free to the public and do not require library membership. Membership is required to check out materials and to use many of the internet programs available from home.

The Canyon Lake Library is located inside the City Hall building. It’s open Mondays, 10 to 7, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 to 6, and Saturdays 10 to 3. It’s closed Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. For more information, call 951-244-9181.
