Out and about in canyon lake

As a community newspaper, The Friday Flyer seeks and welcomes news, announcements and photos sent in by residents. “Out and About in Canyon Lake” features photos of every day life in the community as photographed by residents, volunteer photographers and, in some cases, The Friday Flyer staff. All of today’s features are by Donna Ritchie.

It is our desire that this section becomes a valued tradition for our readers and that many more will make contributions. Photo files should be large enough to print well on newsprint (at least 300 KB) and e-mailed to news@goldingpublications.com.

Teachers Kathy Blakemore and Laural Hebein enjoy a sunset paddle on the lake. Kathy, a 12 year resident, is a science teacher who will be starting her 30th year of teaching at Elsinore Middle School. Laural, a 20-year resident, is a language arts and social studies teacher who will be starting her 17th year of teaching at EMS. Several of their former students still live in Canyon Lake and say that Kathy and Laural are some of the best teachers they've ever had.

John Winterswyk, accompanied by his 14-year-old son Jeremiah, released nine balloons from the dock at Holiday Harbor in honor of his daughter, who passed away nine years ago. John's daughter was killed in an automobile accident when she was 3 years old. Releasing balloons on the date of her passing is something he does every year as a way to honor her. A fairly new resident, this was the first time he released the balloons in Canyon Lake.
