The Canyon Lake Library’s Summer Reading Program, “Read for the Win,” has 318 people participating, earning prizes and being “one in a million.”
Librarian Sandra Brautigam says, “The program has something for all age levels – from reading to children and toddlers to adults who read to earn raffle tickets or to be one in a million California residents to read five books over the summer.”
Sandra says the “extra reading” ticket drawings will begin on Saturday, July 16, with the first of three drawings. The final drawing on July 30, at 11 a.m., will include a package of passes for Rock Fitness climbing gym in Murrieta and a private experience for up to eight players at the Funhouse Escape in Menifee.
The Summer Reading Program is more than just rewards for reading, Sandra explains. The underlying purpose is to prevent “summer slide,” the drop in learning and literacy skills when children are out of school for the summer. Other advantages include connecting reading with pleasure, getting better through practice, and the extra information that can be learned when someone is reading about what interests them.
The Canyon Lake reading program will continue through July 30.
