In Memoriam: Terri Matlock

A60-PIC-obit-Terri-MatlockIt is with great sadness that friends and family say goodbye to longtime Canyon Lake resident, Terri Jean Jauert Matlock, who passed away May 5, 2016 at Loma Linda Hospital in Murrieta.

Terri was born on April 5, 1951 in Orange County, California. She attended high school in Wisconsin. Terri met the love of her life, Michael “Mike” Matlock, at the original Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa and they were married in September 1978.

Mike and Terri moved with their two small children from Santa Ana to Canyon Lake. They were active in their children’s sports and school activities, as well as community events. Terri caught the acting bug after viewing an early Canyon Lake Community Theatre production and became a permanent fixture on stage, as well as behind the scenes for decades. She loved to sing, act and truly enjoyed the camaraderie of the local theater family.

Perhaps Terri’s most memorable role was when she portrayed Aunt Eller in “Oklahoma.”  Other stage credits include “Oliver” (Mrs. Sowerberry), “Into the Woods” (Cinderella’s Mother), “Music Man” (Won Ton Ye Lady), “South Pacific” (Nurse), “Hello Dolly” (ensemble/waiter), “Sound of Music” (nun), “Fiddler on the Roof” (Golda) and “Wizard of Oz” (Auntie Em).

She was a CLCT board member for many years and many will remember Terri and best friend, Diane Scott, unselfishly operating the concession stand at almost every theater production at Indian Beach.

Beginning in 2001, Terri was employed by Scott Business Services as a payroll clerk and became office manager. She made a lasting impression on all clients and will be greatly missed by the Canyon Lake business community.

Her giving heart and diligent work ethic are valued by all who knew her. Terri had a strong Christian faith, loved her church (New Hope Community Church in Canyon Lake), her friends, and her community. She was the rock of her family, and her grandchildren and children were her most prized possessions.

She is survived by her loving children, Kaleigh Rae Matlock and Matthew James Wesley Matlock, both of Menifee. Other surviving family members include son-in-law Jeremy Riter, Cara Matlock, brother Toby Jauert, Kathi Jauert, Jay and Robin Matlock, Jayme and John Herron, and mother-in-law Chrys Matlock.

Terri also is survived by grandchildren KaDynce, Kyleigh and Bryce Eckert, Jeremy Jr. and Jayce Riter, and Matthew Matlock, Jr, as well as her devoted nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Wesley Matlock.

A service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, June 4, at 1 p.m., at New Hope Community Church, 31542 Railroad Canyon Rd., Unit 1, in Canyon Lake, with a reception to follow. Those who are sending flowers to the church prior to the date of the service are asked to contact Melanie Otten at 951-694-2855.

Terri’s passing was unexpected and financial assistance is essential. Please consider making a donation using the following website to help her family. Her friends and family thank you.
