Chair Volleyball brings home gold, silver, bronze

The Canyon Lake Senior Chair Volleyball Club has done it again – winning multiple medals at the Riverside County Senior Games. On April 15, five Canyon Lake teams participated in the annual games held at the Orange Terrace Community Center in Riverside. There were 18 teams from six cities competing in three divisions.

According to Karen Bevans, the Canyon Lake Division I team, captained by Susan French and Pam Oskey, played nine very tense games to win 1st place and bring home the gold.

The Division II team, captained by PJ Anderson and Kelly Marich, battled six opposing teams and, after a playoff game, won the silver.

Finally, the Division III team, captained by Marlene Marich and Maureen Lancia, played six teams for the best two out of three games to become the bronze medal winners.

The Chair Volleyball Club would like to thank the Sports Stop Bar and Grill for their continued support and sponsorship. They also would like to thank Jonathan Nolan Insurance Services for providing trophies, medals and goodie bags for all of the players; as well as former Canyon Lake Mayor Mary Craton for volunteering to handle the Club’s first aid needs.

The Club gives a special thank-you to Canyon Laker Debbi Harper for coordinating the annual competition. Debbi started Chair Volleyball in Canyon Lake and Sun City in 2009. Since that time, the sport has expanded to Menifee, Riverside, Wildomar and San Jacinto, and continues to grow every year.

Finally, everyone involved in Canyon Lake’s Chair Volleyball is grateful to all of the volunteers and spectators who came to support the teams. For more information regarding Senior Chair Volleyball in Canyon Lake, contact Bert Barbay at 951-244-2378.
