The Family Matters Club volunteers have been at it again! Last Sunday they hosted a free spaghetti dinner at the Canyon Lake Senior Center. They brought all the fixings – spaghetti and meatballs, salad, rolls and butter and an assortment of desserts – on the regularly scheduled potluck night. They also gave away a wine basket door prize.

On Monday, volunteers hosted a Toddler Dance Party at the Library. Next Saturday, the group has organized a Community Swapmeet at East Port Park.

The members awarded were Trey Bowen,  Kassidy Oblad, Karina Bowen, Jenny Teperson, Sosy Robinson, Larry Mar and Shawna Bowen. Each of them reached the Gold level for volunteer hours last year.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes those who have achieved the required number of hours of service over a 12-month time period or cumulative hours over the course of a lifetime.

Hours are measured over a 12-month period and awards are designated based on cumulative hours. The awards are offered in multiple levels and are designed to recognize each milestone of one’s service achievement. Levels include bronze, silver, gold and the highest honor, the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, for those who contribute more than 4,000 hours of service in their lifetime.

Along with the ultimate honor of presidential recognition, recipients receive a personalized certificate, an official pin, medallion or coin and a congratulatory letter from the president of the United States.

For more information on how you can earn these awards please contact the Presidential Service Award website or the Canyon Lake Family Matters Club.

Family Matters spokesperson Jenny Teperson says, “It is a tremendous honor to receive and sets you apart from your peers. Even though you may not seek recognition, your example can deliver a powerful message that encourages others to take action.”

The club encourages all volunteers to sign up at www.presidentialserviceawards.gov.  Canyon Lake Family Matters is a certified organization to validate hours and present awards. (The club’s ROS Key is JYS-4303.)

The Family Matters Club is open to all residents, young and old, kids or no kids. Monthly meetings are held the first day of the month, unless otherwise noted, and revolve around a fun theme with speakers, games, prize drawings, crafts, snack and social time. Locations vary. The club puts on several events throughout the year to benefit the community and to raise funds for future events and provide philanthropic donations. For more information, visit the Family Matters Facebook page or call 714-394-4885.
