Caregivers ‘Ask the Doctor’

Are you a man or woman who provides care for your husband, wife or parent? Anyone caring for a loved one for illnesses such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, stroke, heart issues or Parkinson’s is invited to attend Caregivers Connection, a support group that offers an opportunity for caregivers to share common problems, needs and experiences.

The group meets in room C6 at Canyon Lake Community Church on the second and fourth Mondays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. The next meeting will be held on April 25

For more information, contact the group’s facilitator Jo Ann Wickerath at 679-7736 or her assistant Bev Haney at 244-8711.

On May 9, those attending the Caregivers Connection meeting will have the opportunity to “Ask the Doctor” when Dr. Leslee Cochrane facilitates an open forum during which attendees will be given the opportunity to ask medical related questions.

According to the doctor, topics frequently discussed include Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, medication questions and heart disease as well as how to manage patients with dementia and behavioral issues.

Dr. Cochrane completed his medical education and residency training at the City of Faith Hospital in Tulsa Oklahoma. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine with a Certificate of Additional Qualification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the Christian Medical Association.

Dr. Cochrane joined Hospice of the Valleys in October of 2011 where he now serves as the Executive Medical Director. He has been involved in providing hospice and home health services to patients in Southwest Riverside County for over 16 years and enjoys providing house calls to patients as part of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team.

Dr. Cochrane was recognized as the “House Call Doctor of the Year” by the American Academy of Home Care Physicians and was named “Home Care Physician of the Year” by the California Association for Health Services at Home.
