ShowCal Skiers seeks skiers and non-skiers

Members of the Canyon Lake ShowCal Skiers Club will be kicking off 2016 with their first meeting and land practice at Holiday Harbor this Sunday, March 20, at 1 p.m. “Sammy Show Skier” invites everyone to come out and learn what show skiing is all about. The friendly mascot will be handing out treats to kids of all ages!

New Club President Scott Redlin is excited to announce that the ShowCal Skiers Water Ski Show Team will be performing several ski shows this year at the North Ski Area, Fiesta Day, Taco Tuesdays and the annual Car Show. The club currently is seeking new team members to join in the fun of skiing and helping with various tasks involved in putting on shows.

Several former professional skiers are members of the club. They will be on hand to share their knowledge of the sport, and to help beginners learn the ropes.

“Show skiing is a very unique discipline in towed watersports and a very rewarding experience for everyone involved,” says Scott. “Skills and cooperation of many individual skiers as well as non-skiers contribute to the success of the team.”

He adds, “A great ski show performance depends on all members executing their assigned tasks efficiently to keep the show moving and entertaining. It is a departure from traditional 3-event skiing, in that it encourages creativity to generate new and exciting spectacles on the water for audiences.”

With staples like the flag line, human pyramids, ballet girls, hot doggin’ clown, barefoot, ski jump, wakeboard and hydrofoil acts, the audience never gets bored. The ShowCal Skiers leave all possibilities open to the imagination.

“So, if you have any interest or curiosity about the club, come out to Holiday Harbor this Sunday to learn how you can become part of the team that loves to have fun on the water,” says Scott.

Previous show ski experience is not required. All ages, 6 years and older are encouraged to apply. Boat and use of club-owned ski equipment is provided with membership. For more information, visit the new website at www.showcalskiers.com. or email Scott Redlin at showcalskiers@gmail.com.
