3-D printing class is tomorrow at the Library

Tomorrow, March 12, a special one-time class for teens will give participants a chance to program a simple object for 3-D printing. The program, conducted by members of the Vick Knight Library staff, will allow participants to learn about 3D printing and the process of making a 3D print from design to the final result.

The participants’ designs will be printed, but not during the workshop. The computer design files will be taken to the 3D printer at the Vick Knight Library in Lake Elsinore and returned a few days later. The program is restricted to ages 13 to 19 by the terms of the grant which made the printer and program possible. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. The number of participants will be restricted by the number of computers available for programing use.

The RCLStudio 3-D Printing Pilot Project 2015-2016 is a program of the Riverside County Library System (RCLS), supported by the U.S. Institute of Museums and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.

Youth Leadership is another program for area teens. Public speaking and leadership skills are learned in this program sponsored by the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce Toastmasters. It helps youth learn how to run meetings; organize, prepare and present speeches; and experience impromptu short speaking assignments. The program meets at the Library at 4 p.m. the second Monday of the month for seven more sessions. The next meeting is March 14.

In the meantime, today, March 11, at 11:30 a.m. the Preschool Craft and Story Time will feature the theme of “Bees, Butterflies and Bugs.” This program includes stories, music and a craft for preschool development.

Toddler Story Time is held every Monday at 11 a.m. in the Kid’s Cove of the library. This story time is for children age 3 or below.

The Canyon Lake Knitters meet every Wednesday, from 11 to noon at the Library. Knitting is not just for sweaters and scarves. With spring and summer weather on the way, knitting can be a springboard for making beach bags, knitted toys and household items. Newcomers can pick out a first project and receive advice on how to get started.

The Canyon Lake Library is located inside the City Hall building. It’s open Mondays, 10 to 7, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 to 6, and Saturdays 10 to 3. It’s closed Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The Canyon Lake Library is a member of the Riverside County Library System (www.rivlib.net) honoring cards and returns from other affiliated libraries. It has a Facebook page. For more information, call 951-244-9181.
